Inner City Circle is a multi-generational, multi-disciplinary exhibition that aims to forge a bridge between established, mid-career and emerging Boston artists. These communities are often close in proximity yet far from unified, due to disparities in resources and recognition. The seasoned artists of Inner City Circle have created their own opportunities for decades, but with a lack of steady recognition and support for artists in Dorchester and Roxbury the resources and accolades generated have not made the impact they could have on the emerging artists of today. The curators behind Inner City Circle propose that if these artists had a place to gather and share their work side by side, they would experience the kind of tradition and infrastructure that more affluent communities enjoy. It’s time to recognize the great tradition of visual art in the Dorchester/Roxbury area and the immense potential of its future.

This show is a collaborative curatorial effort between Hoodgrown Aesthetic, a podcast created by Amber Torres and Althea “Daughter of Contrast” Bennett that tells the story of 21st-century artists of color living in Boston and abroad; Mfalme Kenyatta, prolific artist and gallery manager at the AfroCaribbean Museum on Washington St. in Dorchester; and Emma Leavitt from the Dorchester Art Project, a community-driven art space in Fields Corner;
